South Padre Island is a well known haven for our retired folks from October thru mid March due to its outstanding low cost accommodations available on a monthly basis. One great benefit of monthly rentals is not only the discounted price during this low season, Winter Texans pay do not pay 14.5% occupancy tax for any stay over 30 days in length – a real savings!
If you book more than 1 month, we discount even further. The lowest cost months to book a long term rental on South Padre Island are October & November, followed by December, then January, and finally February. March generally is not discounted due to family spring break rentals increasing the rate. The South Padre Winter Vacation Rentals over 30 days are generally 35 to 50% cheaper than peak season rates

Escaping the cold weather by heading south as well as overall affordability make South Padre Island’s mild tropical climate, fantastic wide open beaches, easily accessible fishing spots & down right cheap restaurants makes it a #1 choice for monthly rentals.
South Padre enjoys an average annual temp of 74 degrees. On the Island Metro the City provided tourist bus that is free transportation to beach access points, lodging, dining and attractions daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On your extended monthly stay, you can swim, bike ride, fly kites, visit the Turtle Rehab center, as well as enjoy happy hour with free live music at venues like:
Our Winter Texans can choose from a variety of tours and cruises from dolphin watching, “oh my” surfing or SUP, jetty fishing in Isla Blanca Park, pier fishing at Pirate’s Landing, beach surf fishing (all beaches in Texas are open to public per state law), flats fly fishing, bay fishing on many group charters, group or private deep sea fishing, eco-tours, sunset, dinner, and fireworks cruises & more.
For beach lovers, grab your umbrella and beach chairs beach ball head to one of dozenso of beach access points to catch some Vitamin – Sea! There are a ton of fun speciality shops and boutiques along Padre Boulevard on the Island as well as Historic Lighthouse in Port Isabel with many artesian lining the west side of the square.
Many of our Winter Texan visitors go with a slightly larger condo or home than they really need to invite down family or friends for their extended stays. The following airlines fly into the “valley” or local area:

Brownsville, Texas (about 50 mins away with traffic)
Mcallen, Texas
Many of our winter visitors also visit the popular border town of Progreso, Mexico for their cheap restaurants and bars, as well as low cost medicines that you do not need a prescription for, and are legal to walk back across the border. In January and February, there are literally hundreds of US retirees over there shopping, eating, or enjoying low cost dental care. You can walk across easily, and a passport is recommended but US Customs for walking back is someone easy going if you don’t have one to retirees
